Well, no Keith or Ronnie.
but we did get Blondie, Tim Ries and Chris Jagger.
It was a great show other than having an unusually large number of stupid drunks... I had to break up a fight after one drunk attacked another guy. Very non-typical for Austin.
I arrived at Antones a little after 11. I was standing in the back watching the show when I noticed that Blondie was standing next to me. I told him I thought the Stones show had been amazing. I was amused to watch so many people walk right by him w/o a clue of who he was.
James Cotton came on and played some great harp. He seemed to be having trouble talking but he had no problems blowing the harp! they did a great version of Rocket 88. Local soul singer Malford Milligan sang a couple songs with them.
Chris Jagger came up and sang a few songs. Then Hubert and Blondie played a long set. They were joined by Tim for awhile. Blondie and Hubert had great stage rapport and really seemed to be having a great time playing together.
After Hubert and Blondie finished, Joe Ely came up and played a short set. Joe is a Lubbock boy and mentioned how much he liked Keith playing the Buddy Holly song... He then played fantastic versions of Well Alright and Not Fade Away. It was a highlight of the show for me.
SRV's band (Double Trouble) was the backing band all nite and did a great job.
I am exhausted, the show ended about 2:20 almost 12 hours after I first arrived at the gates for the Stones show. But what an amazing weekend.
Once I have time to go through all my pics from the weekend, I'll post some from the Antones show.
