GREED Posts: 77 Sep 1 05 12:37 PM	Tags : None How is this done? I know I read somewhere that once you have the files in winamp you can get a plugin to convert them. I looked through winamp & there were a ton of different ones. Which one should I use? Are they free? Also, once converted to a wav file, what's the best way to burn it to a disc? I tried using winamp & it locked up... Finally, when creating mp3 files is it best to convert from flac to mp3 directly or should one convert them to wav files first? I want to have them on CD & on my iPod. Thanks in advance!!

I always use Nero software for copying and found a codec pack free download at Download.com ,which included the Flac to wave codec I just had to copy and paste it into the file where my nero components where. Now it works like a dream.I can also now listen before burning on nero player. I've never used winamp,so I can't help there. sc uk

money grabber Posts: 124 Sep 4 05 6:42 PM	Sure, use the link in the previous post as a start. You've got 2 choices: play them as FLAC files or transcode them to something you can use like wav files. I am unaware of MP3 encoders that will compress a FLAC file. The nice thing about FLAC or SHN, or APE etc files is that they are lossless. Slightly reduced in size but containing ALL the fidelity of the original files. I use WAV files for my car and home stereo and VBR MP3s for my iPod. Winamp has a FLAC plugin but I don't personally use it. Check the...Winamp site for more details. The FLAC Frontend will transcode them to wav files and you can burn a standard audio CD or compress the files to MP3. Exact Audio Copy (EAC) with the LAME encoder is a great method for doing this. Different MP3 encoders vary in the job they do. If you need more help - after reviewing the links provided, I'm happy to help you out. "It was bad the first time, I can't stand it twice."

Where can I find this FLAC Frontend & Exact Audio Copy? Is it part of Winamp or is it a plugin I have to download? Is it free or do I have to pay for it? Forgive me if I'm a slow learner but this is all kind of new to me!! Thanks in advance!!

A plugin would be used to play FLAC files with a given player, some have them available for FLAC, some don't-Winamp does - just download the FLAC plugin for Winamp and install it. Everything you need to know about this stuff is available at these sites or linked sites. It requires a bit of reading on your part, but isn't that tough to figure out. Start with the FAQs (that's obvious right?). EAC requests you register via snail mail but doesn't require it. The FLAC frontend requires nothing.
